Where to report

Who: The CFPB takes complaints about banks, credit cards, loans, mortgages, and debt collection.

When to use: Use this for problems with financial products or services, including scams involving your bank or card.

What to prepare:

  • Dates and amounts
  • Name of company and account details
  • What happened
  • Steps you've already taken

Who: Federal banking regulators (OCC, Fed, FDIC) provide fraud resources and oversight.

When to use: Use their resources for fraud involving banks they supervise; CFPB may still be the main place to file a complaint.

What to prepare:

  • Your bank name
  • Dates and description of the issue

If money was stolen or you are a victim of fraud, also contact your local police and consider IC3 for internet-related theft.
